The No-Name Game

Posted by Karoli in Home October 31st, 2005

As I’ve ventured out and about in the blogosphere, I’ve noticed that many people use their real names. This is very different than message boards, where pseudonyms are the norm rather than the exception. It’s really nice to associate names, blogs and sometimes faces and I’ve debated about ‘coming out’ and using my name.

Ultimately the answer has to be “no”. This is mainly because my mom gave me a very unusual first name — one that doesn’t yield many Google results, and the results that come up are my name as associated with my business, which is not web-related. I really don’t want that association to cross over to this blog — they are entirely unrelated.

But I am a real person and part of me would like to join the “real name” community, so I guess for this purpose “drumsnwhistles” is as good as my real name, strange as it may seem. Commenting is where I really start feeling silly, but it’s actually more normal than my real name, which no one can pronounce or spell. To all of you “real-namers”, forgive me for remaining anonymous. Here’s a photo, though….so at least we feel a little more real.
