…isn’t in the fall for us, it’s the second week of December. That’s the week for all of the year-end concerts, plays, shows, parades, and other assorted command performances. This week has been no exception — we’re finally on the tail-end of it, but it’s been a long week. The highlight for me was seeing Sticks’ college jazz band performance on Tuesday. It was, bar none, the very best jazz performance I’ve ever seen him do, and the best part was that he was loving every minute of it. As it turns out, some of his friends from the Senior Citizens’ Band play with the “B” band, so it was also an opportunity for him to make connections with them. The “A” band rocked and it was a blast.
This is about the closest I get to hating the holiday season, though. Between concert performances, the inevitable rush from one thing to the next, eating crummy food on the run, and having no sleep, our entire family is fighting the urge to come down with some terrible virus all at the same time.
T is still suffering from bronchitis from a pre-Thanksgiving bout with a cold and ear infection and then had to have a root canal earlier this week. Sticks and Dancergirl are holding their own but Sticks was in bed all Thanksgiving weekend and Dancergirl just coughs all the time, as if to say that she is trying not to be next but failing miserably. I always seem to be able to stave it off till about February, when it hits me like a ton of bricks. I’m trying to exercise and wash my hands like I’ve got OCD, but life really needs to decelerate before I’ll breathe easier.
Because of all of this, I’ve not seen my grandma for fear of giving her some horrid virus that puts her back into pneumonia-land…I’m feeling guilty about that. BUT, I do have a Shuffle loaded up with lots of podcasts, all audio tagged for her listening enjoyment. Work and life and germs permitting, I’ll get it to her this week. Sticks used her finger cymbals from Nepal in the Jazz band concert — it was cool! I have it on MP3 so she can hear it.
I’d love to hear any and all suggestions for good podcasts for her. She loves news, current events, and thinking. Got any ideas?
