Heroes and 2006 Inspiration

Posted by Karoli in Home December 31st, 2005

It’s New Year’s Eve and I’ve read a zillion blogs this week and especially today that either have lists of resolutions looking forward or recaps of the year behind us. They were interesting, but the one that stands out is in a blog I discovered quite by accident as I was searching for some links for work. Heroes Among Us is a blog written by Terri Marie. Terri Marie uses this blog to profile “ordinary heroes” — the people among us who don’t make the evening news or the newspaper, but through their examples and their lives, are heroes. The entry that popped up tonight profiles Courtney Faye, an almost-nine-year old who, with her mother and friend Lori Shelton aim to build an accessible playground in San Clemente, CA for kids like Courtney Faye who live life in their wheelchairs.

Courtney Faye’s lessons seem to be the perfect roadmap for my 2006 –

  • Don’t Complain
  • Have Fun
  • Put More Color into your World
  • There is Always a Way to Do Something
  • Every One of Us has Different Abilities
  • Sometimes it Takes More Than One
  • Time is the Most Important Thing in the World

Time is important to Courtney Faye, just as it is to me, despite mine being signed in odd lots. My hope and wish for 2006 is that time will be kind and that Courtney Faye’s lessons will be the center of a life that brings some joy and color to others’ lives.

Thank you, Courtney Faye and Terri Marie, for sharing your heroes’ lessons.
