Looking for suggestions…

by Karoli on January 4, 2006

I have the task of putting together a slide show for my Grandma’s memorial service on January 14th. I want some really good music to put behind it, but haven’t really found anything that isn’t either completely antithetical to her personality or just too sappy for words. Songs ruled out:

  • Goodbye, My Friend
  • Wind Beneath My Wings
  • Tears in Heaven
  • Angels
  • I Will Remember You (great chorus, crummy lyrics in the verses)
  • I Hope You Dance (too, too country, she’d hate it)
  • Stairway to Heaven
  • anything Enya

I have a wonderful recording of “The Lark Ascending” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, but it’s waaaaay too long — 17 minutes.

All suggestions would be welcomed.

  • Please let me know what you pick. I am interested to find out. Picking songs especially for such an important occasion is not an easy task.
  • Maryam,

These are all terrific ideas! Thank you so much. I'm off to iTunes to see which one would work the best.
  • How about:

    1) (I've Had) The Time Of My Life - Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes

    2) Time of your life - Green Day

    3) Three times a lady - Lionel Richie

    4) Like the Deserts Miss the Rain - Everything but the girl

    5) Why should I cry for you? - Sting

My thoughts are with you and your family.
