Love Ellen, but Tom is evil

Posted by Karoli in ADHD January 7th, 2006

Denise asked me via a comment on my aside about Yahoo playing with the devil why I was upset with Ellen Degeneres.

I love Ellen Degeneres. I think she is one of the best writers/comics alive today and whatever she does is pure genius. I have always hated the fact that her show was killed when she came out — it was a nasty business and I wish she was still on today. Her character was great, the dialogue rocked every week and it was one of the true TV gems around. It bugs me more that it’s not even well-syndicated today — it was a show worthy of major syndication.

On the other hand, I consider Tom Cruise to be purely evil. Every word that comes out of his mouth makes me want to puke. His self-satisfied parrotting of his Scientology handlers’ sound bites are nonsense, his behavior more nonsensical, and I wish him many years of obscurity and box-office failures. He has done more damage with his impulsive spouting of the Scientology anti-medication rant than I can even measure. In my eyes, he’s uglier than an ass.

So Yahoo has a disaster of a keynote at CES…sort of a mashup of the recent Microsoft malfunctions and iPod hype, and to bail themselves out they get Tom up there to schmooze the audience. Evil stuff, that.

and then there’s a photo of Ellen up there saving Yahoo (I’m sure she was more effective than Tom) from even more disaster and the final cut — Ellen, Tom and Katie together and it’s like looking at the devil himself seducing a saint.

Okay, Ellen is no saint and Tom’s not quite the devil, though close. But I do not in any way, shape or form want to even think of the two being in the same context, much less associated with an online service that I have long regarded as one step above AOL…

Is it possible to love Flickr and hate Yahoo? Is it possible to love Ellen and forget that she was hanging out with Tom? I sure hope so….

Oh good grief. People sell their souls for their jobs all of the time, I know this from personal experience. What would you have had Ellen do, publicly snub Tom Cruise and my poor misguided Katie? That's ridiculous. Ellen did her job, just like you and I do our jobs. Just like good ole Tom did his job.

Here's a question for you, is it possible to love Scoble but hate Microsoft? Hell yea it is. Just like it's possible to love _____ and hate _____ (you fill in the blank for me, I bet you know exactly what I'd put in those two blanks lol).

Find the zen - for yahoo, for Tommy boy, for life. That's my motto. ;-) (Thanks for explaining your "aside".)
