I love the abandon of this photo, how still the water is ahead of the egret and how the droplets from its wings create small disturbances across the reflection and lake surface.
The birds who have come here to nest for the winter are becoming so accustomed to me aiming my binoculars and zoom lens at them that they virtually ignore me and go about their chosen business.
When they fly, they do so with pure abandon and a purpose combined. This egret saw fish, and availed himself of them. What a wonderful late afternoon treat for me!
