The Blogher effect meets Digg

by Karoli on February 19, 2006

Hey, I just caught a post on the Blogher feed about Digg.com If anyone is unfamiliar with Digg.com, it’s a very cool social bookmarking and news site where the users determine the stories on the front page by “digging” (bookmarking) them.

The thing is, it’s mostly (not all, but mostly) a boy site. Heavy gaming, tech influence and for the most part the boys play there much more often and in higher numbers than the girls. When someone posts a link to something interesting, cool or new, often the flood of visitors to the linked site will actually exceed bandwidth for the site. That’s the “digg effect”.

A member of the Blogher group posted a link to Blogher on Digg, describing it as a cool new site. Her post was immediately dismissed as spam and sent to digg hell. If you want to revive it and get some publicity (good publicity) for Blogher out there, digg this link. Let’s create a little “Blogher effect” to compliment the “digg effect”.

  • Hi supa,

Glad you did! I see there aren't too many diggs, but at least the 'spam' accusation has been countered. :)

  • This was enough to make me finally sign up for digg.
