After T and I tried to get to the drumline practice competition the other day and failed, we decided to console ourselves with a Borders’ shopping spree. Armed with our books and new DVDs, we headed home where T promptly hogged the DVD player and good TV for 2 days. Finally, he went to bed and I popped my new one in.
Whether or not you’re a bird fan, Winged Migration is one of the most incredible documentaries I’ve ever seen. Made in 2000-2001, it tracks the migration of several groups of birds for one full year. They actually imprinted with Canada Geese and pelicans so that they could join the migratory route. The result is incredible. The cinematography and camera work is not to be missed.
Those who know me know I never go to the movies. The last one I actually saw in a theater was Little Women, so figure out how long ago that was.
I would go to the movies to see this one on a big screen. It’s that amazing. Rent this DVD if you see it or pick it up at a local Borders — it’s old enough to be discounted to about $15.00. Worth every penny and then some.
(Special note to Swamphag: Some of the most incredible heron and egret photos I’ve ever seen come from Justabird, along with other amazing pics. Makes me wish I lived in Florida.
