Balls in a Bowl

For What’s this Doing in My House Monday, I decided to post this picture of balls, wooden balls, sitting in my sister-in-law’s house. They are a lovely bowl of completely useless wooden balls, purely decorative.

My house has a ton of useless things in it, but none of them are nearly as pretty as this bowl of wooden balls. I think there was a time in my life when I had room and energy for useless things that were there to decorate and be dusted, but these days we have drums, dance gear, guitars, paper, and pug hair, none of which are as interesting as the balls in the bowl. They don’t get dusted either and certainly aren’t decorative, but they are there, nevertheless. And because we didn’t really get home till late last night, there’s even more stuff in the living room, so I decided to indulge in a bit of escapism and enjoy things that aren’t in my house, but that I wish were in my house.

Ha, this makes me wish extra hard that my grandmother was still alive. Ah the “What’s this doing in HER house” posts I could make. Today’s entry was suppose to be a grandma entry but Joseph’s appearance changed that. Next week, I’ll do it, unless the Virgin Mary makes an appearance in the catfood bowl or something.

Oh, I could do a zillion posts about my grandma’s house, too! She had all sorts of funny little odds and ends. I just thought it was so strange to have a bowl of balls on the coffee table — decorative balls at that. They practically screamed for me to take their picture!

My SIL just replaced all of her living room furniture, and whoever she bought it from “dresses” the room with the accessories, etc. that they think fit, then she lives with them for a couple of weeks before buying them. Evidently the balls are part of the ‘dressing’.
