I think you've definitely hit on something here...

Perfectionism...yeah. That's part of it, for sure. In thinking this through more, I do think it's also a convergence of too many tails wagging one dog. Trust me -- I would definitely delegate if there were anyone to delegate to....

What I think should happen here is a priority re-ordering with regard to what is coming. I think it's really time to do whatever we have to do to get Sticks driving his own car for starters, so we're not the designated drivers. Beyond that, it's also having a family work day here where everyone clears their day and deals with their piece of the mess, and then structuring something more routine going forward, and everyone having a bit more respect for the time I give to things.

I didn't mean to make it sound like we're all at each others' throats...in relative terms, we ARE a happy family. There are just days, and yesterday was one, where it seemed like the happiness was coming to them at my expense. :) Today is a new day, and a brighter one. :)

I'm glad you're reading and commenting -- odd time signatures needs a resident "mystic". ;-)

Life is as busy as we make it.
Sometimes we wind our lifestyles up so much that we're in danger of being sucked in by the centrifugal force of it when we decide to have a break. I suspect that is what you're feeling now. Your touch of depression is caused by the feeling that you set too many things in motion and you didn't have time to do them all perfectly.

Perhaps if you delegate a bit more and not try to "wind things up" so high, you can find a more relaxing rhythm for yourself. A happy mom makes a happy family. Is a happy family not the real goal behind all the tasks you set for yourself?
