Yes, I did take the camera out yesterday afternoon but was judicious about the time I spent taking photos. I didn’t have to spend too long because the neighbor across the way had put up this very, very cool red umbrella and the light fell on it just right, offering me a kick-butt photo opportunity.
I posted it to Flickr late last night and went to bed. Got Sticks and Bigdog off to the airport at 4:30 AM and went back to bed. Got up WAY too late this morning and over the morning coffee, loaded up Flickr. To my amazement, there was my red umbrella on the Flickr’s front page with tons of really nice comments and favorites.
This is why Flickr is so different from other photo sharing sites. It’s not just about sharing with people you KNOW…it’s about sharing with people you don’t know, from all over. And because the focus is so positive to begin with (pictures are usually something that pleases people), participation is also generally positive.
I’m not saying that it’s always this way, but my experience has been about 95% positive, which is incredibly unusual for online community participation. Not only that, I’ve learned a ton from participating there and had opportunities to meet folks from all over, with lots of different interests and styles.
