Blogher is only a few days away! Donna tagged me for the BlogMe, Baby! online party, something I had in the back of my mind to do, but didn’t get to this weekend.
The original idea was to choose 5 questions and send them to someone attending the conference, but since I didn’t get to it this weekend I’m going to do my own five, tag them with BlogMe and BlogHer06, and drop a link back on the Blogher site. So…here we go!
- When did you start blogging and why?
I started blogging to prove that blogging was stupid. I was involved in an email exchange about blogs where I said that I thought blogs were self-indulgent, why would anyone want to write what I wrote anyway, why would they care, and that the whole commenting structure was kludgy and difficult compared to message boards. I think it took about a month, maybe less, for me to retract everything I said and admit that Denise is always right.
- What don’t you write about? Anything considered a no-no in your book?
I don’t write about things I’ve been told by friends or family in email or conversations unless they give me permission. I don’t write about my sex life (good or bad) or spats with BigDog (with one exception) because I don’t think it’s fair to put that out on the Internet when it’s only my side of things. I try not to write anything I’d be embarrassed for my mom to read.
- So soon we’re going to meet each other at BlogHer. Important question. How do you party?
Gently. My idea of a party is to nurse a glass of wine, have my camera and watch everyone else through the lens, so they can have memories of the fun later. Alcohol, in doses of larger than one glass, does not mix well with the meds.
- How would you describe your writing style?
Someone once told me I write like a man. I’m not sure what that means exactly, but I’d describe my writing style as variable, depending on the topic. I am not as conversational as I’d like to be…that’s something I’m working on. I tend to write my best when I’m outraged about something. I truly envy the bloggers who write with such a strong sense of humor. I have a sense of humor but it’s dry and sarcastic and doesn’t always translate well on the blog. I wish I could write with that voice that just makes me want to fall over laughing.
- Have you written anything controversial? Is blogging controversial?
Blogging might’ve been controversial once, but it’s pretty mainstream now. I’ve written some pretty strong opinions about Scientology, illegal immigration and health insurers’ practices. I’m not a news or political blogger, so I’d say I’m more focused on topics that might be helpful to others. Honestly, the thing I love the most about my blog is my photo posts. I love sharing photos from me and my Flickr friends with the folks who read the blog.
Bigdog shot a nice photo of me…so now you know what I look like.

I’m tagging lizditz, Sneadwoman, Lee, and Kmilyun, Sassymonkey, and Leona. I hope you’ll all participate even if you’re not going in person — all the sessions are being liveblogged, so you’ll be there in pixels if not in person…Drop a link to your interview in the comments!
