Tom Cruise and Paramount

by Karoli on August 23, 2006

I wish Paramount had cut him loose because of his conduct, his irresponsible touting of the Scientology anti-drug mantra, and his bizarre behavior all around.

But I think it was purely a business decision. Dollars and cents. The bottom line and almighty dollar are as worshipped in Hollywood as they are in the cult of Scientology.

  • Had he not started behaving like a lunatic, they'd have kept him and the money stream, though I don't think Mission Impossible would have done better with him in normal mode.

I don't know...maybe it did have something to do with it, but ultimately I just don't view the decision as one with a moral and/or ethical foundation.

And of course, it's moot now that he has the backing of the Redskins' owner. I can only hope that once unleashed, he will become so bizarre that he will be irrelevant.

    Sooner rather than later. :)
  • Aren't the dollars and cents connected to all the odd behaviour in the last year or two though? It was after he jumping on couches, going after Brooke Shields, and hiding Katie away that his popularity dived.

Business decision yes, but would they have made this decision if he hadn't gone wacko?
