School Shootings = Major Anxiety

by Karoli on October 2, 2006

Last Friday afternoon I walked onto Sticks’ campus with a backpack full of video and camera equipment. No one even looked sideways at me.

I’m known by many at that school and the band parents in particular are used to seeing Bigdog and I loaded down with equipment. I was also wearing a band booster shirt. Still, I could just as easily have been a nutjob with a backpack full of automatic weapons and no one would have known.

I am fighting serious anxiety about this for obvious reasons, but also because two of the last three shootings have been adults shooting kids. I don’t understand this. Why are adults coming so unglued that they’re shooting at innocent kids? And shooting at the AMISH? Why?

I am so sad over this. The Amish are wonderful people and their peaceful existence has been shattered by unnecessary violence for no reason. No purpose.

We aren’t barbarians. Are we?
