A fight between two high school students erupted into a riot of 500 people, prompting officers to fire bean bags and rubber pellets to scatter the crowd, police said. No major injuries were reported.
The idea of a riot at Fontana High School is scary enough. It’s a large school in a hot, miserable area with a very diverse group of students. Scarier still are the incredibly bigoted and racist comments to the article. Yikes.
Only in Texas: Via EdWonk, the report that students in Burleson, Texas are being trained to fight back if confronted with a gunman in their classroom. This is insane. Dr. Helen thinks it’s better than cowering under a desk. I think it would be better to deal with the issues giving rise to school violence, make schools more secure where necessary, and yeah — keep the frickin’ guns out of the hands of people who have no business with them, including students and insane people.
What do you think?
