About six weeks ago Moo ran a promo where they gave away 10 free mini-cards to Flickr members. I missed that promo, but saw enough of the cards to think they would be a very cool tool for Sticks, and I just wanted some. So I ordered a couple of sets of 100 at their special Flickr rate ($20/100). Both sets arrived last week but this was the first chance I’ve had to photograph mine. Sticks took possession of his right away and I’ve not seen them since.
They were easy to make — Moo uses the Flickr API to access photos and sets. Select the photos you want, then Moo makes crop suggestions which you can tweak or leave alone. I tweaked some, but most worked the way they recommended. For Sticks, I used my photos tagged drums; for me, I used my Interestingness set with a few railroads and flowers mixed in for variety. His set is 20 copies of 5 different images. My set is 2 copies of 50 different images.
The back has whatever contact info you want to add, and my set also has my Flickr avatar and name.
The quality of these cards is really very, very nice. The stock is heavy — about the weight of matte board, the colors are vibrant and the back is nicely printed. They’re expensive, but worth it, I think. The deal I got included free shipping, which makes a difference since they’re being shipped from the UK, but even so, I’d order them again because they are so unique and interesting.
Sticks really likes his — he’s gotten tons of positive feedback from the people he’s given them to. I’ll be interested to see what his drum teacher thinks of them.
Okay, by now you all must think I’m just a hopeless shopping addict. I’m really not (and by the way, all of the reviews I’ve posted tonight are not paid), but I figured we’re all thinking about gifts and interesting things for the holidays, so I’d post these in case they interested you.
