11 Rules of Life

[Update: Thanks, commenter Nancy for pointing out that the attribution to Bill Gates is a myth. Whether Bill said it or not, the sentiments still ring true, but I've changed the post title to be more accurate]

Via The Biz of Knowledge. May I please, pretty please, send rules 1, 2 & 8 to my Affluenza-sufferers?

Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools they have abolished failing grades and they’ll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn’t bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

As I posted on the original site:

I appreciate the general agreement with the sentiments, but I think passing on urban legends unchallenged is always problematic. Remember the one a few years about Kurt Vonnegut’s supposed commencement address (http://www.snopes.com/quotes/vonnegut.htm)? Adding a famous name inspires unwarranted confidence in the sagacity of the writing, not to mention robs the real author of credit.
