Clearing Out Stuff

by Karoli on January 7, 2007

Here’s what I did today. You don’t see a “before” photo because it was too embarrassing to even keep a remembrance. Suffice it to say there was about twice the amount of stuff — books, CDs, DVDs, saved cards, stuff taken away from the dog, kid stuff that needed to be thrown ages ago, and other ephemera, not to mention dust that would choke even the strongest horse. And now it’s clean, organized, and houses one of the SurroundSound speakers for the new TV altar. :)

Via Adult ADD Strengths, a timely reminder about the tyranny of STUFF. Now I agree with much of this article, but I accept the fact that my life will not be free of clutter. I live in too many buckets.

What I do know is that I can contain the clutter and keep it under control. And that is my goal for this month — to get it under control and then keep it that way. The bookshelf was the last battleground downstairs. Next, bedrooms.

  • wow looks so neat!

I don't think clutter free is a goal for everyone, but as Ed Hallowell says "organized enough" is a reachable target for most of us. Under control is definitely a better feeling than out of of control which for some ADDers is the default situation.
  • Now you have done it. Gone and proved that there is life after clutter :0
If I were brave I would snap a shot of my really, really cluttered and jumbled up shelf in my room up here but then I would have to clean and organize it so I could take the after picture.
