It Boggles the Mind

by Karoli on January 20, 2007

Keith Olbermann’s smackdown of Bill O’Reilly and his “Blame the Victim” mentality. I agree with him — why does O’Reilly have a place in the media?

And as long as we’re talking about victims, Thomas Hawk has some pretty passionate things to say about Shawn Hornbeck’s appearance on Oprah. I agree with him, and also with this post. And to Shawn’s parents, this precaution — PTSD doesn’t appear overnight. Put some time and distance in between Shawn’s return and a media blitz, no matter how noble the cause.

  • Thanks, lora for that post. I do think people need to understand that they really don't have the right to known.

For those people who have never experienced first hand what it feels like to be stalked by a predators have no ideas what life is like. Although my daughter was not kidnapped she was stalked by an internet predator that made our life a living hell until he was found. At first I was so angry that my daughter would allow something like this to happen but when it was all over and done with I knew the fear. Luckily the guy was found, charges were pressed against him and he is in jail. The sad part is it never goes away and both of these boys need to talk to someone and stay away from the media. They need to heal and heal without all the blasting of people.
  • Hi codylee,

It was wrong, and ignorant. O'Reilly has a history of saying outrageous and inflammatory things to get a reaction from viewers, but this went far beyond the pale.

Of course, Fox is the same station that didn't bat an eye when he was accused of sexual harassment and then settled the whole thing quietly and with no disclosure.
