Happy Valentine’s Day

Tropical

I didn’t really come up with a “Valentine-specific” photo to post for you, but this is one of a series I took after the first serious rainstorm of 2007 last month. When the rain finally let up, there were these big droplets hanging off of everything. Each droplet contained a reflection of the object directly below the droplet. In some cases the reflection was harsh; in others too soft and undefined. But the flowers’ reflections were magnificent, every one. The birds of paradise this year have been amazing — out of control with vibrance, barely able to contain themselves — and their reflections are no exception. They’re not red, not heart-shaped, aren’t edible and don’t come in chocolate-covered versions. Still, they’re intended to stop you for at least a second while you just soak up some color and pretty stuff from me to you.

Danah Boyd has some interesting and insightful thoughts on the culture of “Hallmark Holidays“. Definite food for thought.
