I love the Blogosphere and so will Julie Amero
Posted by Karoli in News February 20th, 2007
Comments are now closed on the Julie Amero post, and I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to say something or blog about it on their own sites.
I’ve visited every blog that was linked in the comments, but I want to take the time to publicly acknowledge every person who responded.
- Liz Ditz - I Speak of Dreams: Liz has also been following this case carefully and was the one whose post alerted me to the Julie Amero Defense Fund.
- Mamacita posted a heartfelt post on her blog.
- Jon Robinson: jonsnetwork.com Jon wrote a great post pointing out where fault truly belongs in this case.
- Marie, from Disarranging Mine. If you’re a Springfield, IL blogger, check hers out — she’s got some terrific photos of Springfield. Marie is also a friend and colleague from a past life — we just reconnected when she stumbled on my blog from another site!
- Diva Kelly from Mocha Momma, who writes like no one I’ve ever read and always has a post that either makes me stop and think, laugh, or cry. I emailed Kelly and asked her to please consider alerting her readers to this story. Their response (and hers) have been overwhelming. Hugs to Kelly and a heart of gratitude from me!
- milligansghost (left no links, but had supportive commentary)
- Mommela, from Mutterings and Musings on Mommyhood (a really nice Mommy blog — go check it out!)
- Beth, who writes at Life. Not Terribly Ordinary. Beth is a physician currently doing her residency in the ER of a hospital in New York.
- Fiona didn’t leave any blog links, but did leave a comment. Thank you, Fiona.
- Rob also didn’t leave a URL, but commented, and I’m appreciative of him, too!
- Lindsey also remarked. Thank you!
- S. who blogs at Mumof3Boyz is submitting this story to Reader’s Digest’s “That’s Outrageous” column. Let’s hope their editors are as outraged as we are. Thank you, S
- rachel has a blog called “A Gaggle of Girls“. and she posted about my challenge yesterday. Rachel blogs about being a mom, books, dealing with chronic pain and her fibromyalgia diagnosis — a tough disease to diagnose and treat. Thank you so much, Rachel!
- twincats echoes the shoutout for educating our justice system on current technology. Amen and thank you, twincats.
- dragon-mum is Australian and cannot comprehend how our American justice system can possibly have gone so far wrong? Me too, dragon-mum, and thank you for commenting!
- Cynthia Samuels, television and multimedia producer (formerly of Today), has a fascinating blog about all sorts of topics. Her terrific post about Julie Amero’s plight entitled What Would Book Burning Look Like on the Internet is much appreciated, as is the transcript of a recent talk about children and internet access. Thank you, Cynthia!
- Joel, a Flickr friend from Germany and fellow photographer affirms the international view of our system of justice, which is not positive.
- kelli in the mirror blogs at Holding the Mirror Up to My Soul was kind enough to leave a comment and blog about it on her blog. She blogs about homeschooling, books, being a mom, and life. Thank you, kelli!
- Kmilyun is a frequent commenter, recent D80 owner, and really interesting person who also hates unjust outcomes. Go read her latest post about life after a series of strokes at the young age of 46. If you’re at risk for stroke because of weight, high blood pressure or other factors, consider making lifestyle changes. Kmilyun’s spirit pulls her through the frustration and her intelligence works to her benefit to overcome, but it’s a struggle. Check her photos too — she’s really rockin’ with that D80. Thank you, Kmilyun.
- Daisy is a teacher and mom of a college student and disabled teenager. I’m subscribed to her blog Compost Happens now because she’s so passionate about what she does, who she is and her family. Thank you, Daisy.
- Johschmoh (love the name!) agrees that the case is stupid. Now if we could just get the prosecutor to see that. Thank you, Johschmoh.
- Kate is a high school teacher in Texas, and her blog is “Katie-Kat World“. Thank you, Kate, and I hope one of the outcomes of our outrage is some way to protect all of you who go to work every day to educate our kids.
- Carrie has a blog here. and I got a kick out of some of her funny posts — I’ll be sure never to question a drunk. Carrie wondered why Julie Amero doesn’t sue the district for letting the firewall lapse. The problem is that until she is vindicated of wrongdoing, a civil suit from her wouldn’t have much merit. As a convicted felon and required registered sex offender she doesn’t have much standing in civil court. The criminal charges have to be undone first, then yes — I hope she goes after ‘em tooth and nail. (and I don’t advocate lawsuits unless there’s clear liability, which there is, and even more harm done)
- malathionman has a blog called “Wear Gloves and Protective Eyewear” and has a hoot of a blog, covering everything from golf to stupid kids. Thank you, malathionman, and I’m subscribed, too.
- Elisabeth writes a parenting, life, pro-choice, and life blog at Sozzled, a fun blog with some fun photos, too. Thank you, Elisabeth.
- Lara writes about Life: The Ongoing Education, a poignant but not maudlin real-time blog about relationships, loss, depression, and friendship. Thank you, Lara.
- scoutj is where you’ll want to head from here, becase she’s continuing the campaign to support Julie Amero by offering chances at a $25 gift certificate. Thank you, scout for your blog post, your support, and your voice. I’m grateful!
- KSL blogs at 24 going on 40 about life with a husband, a big hairy dog, and four kids under the age of 6. Yikes! Thank you, KSL!
- MrsRW has Things to Say, and say them she does! I need to introduce her to my mom, who would get a kick out of her thoughts about watching her tomboy daughter raise a girlie-girl daughter (yes, that’s my story, too!).
- jillian, you’re welcome! Thank you for your comment and support.
- Lori is an American expat living in Saudi Arabia, where Sand Gets in My Eyes — well, not mine, but hers, for sure. She posted about her own experience with malware in front of the top executives of her company. Thank you, Lori, for the wonderful post and comment here.
- Mark Rogers also posted in support of our efforts and he blogs at rmfr.com. Thank you, Mark.
- Pippi is a knitter and blogs at PippiKneeSocks.com. Don’t these socks look toasty? Sticks is going to need some warm ones if he decides to go to IU…brrrrrr! Thank you, Pippi.
- liza was here, too. She has a wonderful blog with a great description — an unexpectedly southern thirtysomething bibliophile lesbian mommy blogger — I had a fun visit this afternoon.
- amanda, I agree about justice removing its blindfold. Certainly it’s warranted here. Amanda blogs at clothesknit about — knitting! But not just knitting, yarns and fibers and textiles and all sorts of yummy things. (I really like yarn…I’m a crocheter and nice yarn is almost as cool as office supplies). She also runs a yarn swap that’s pretty cool. Thank you, amanda.
- Sarah, Jean-Ann, and Hannah — Thank you for your support and visits!
- Carrie blogs at carrioke’s knitting blog. I love the sweater she knit — she’s got a photo on her front page. I’m in awe of knitters — I don’t have enough focus or coordination or something, but I do love crochet. Thank you, Carrie.
- Tali, it is definitely not how we learned it in government class, or even on Court TV. Tali’s Journal is a lovely personal journal with some nice Love Thursday links to other journals. Thank you, Tali.
- ann-marie made a donation to the Amero Defense Fund and blogged it AND posted a comment. Now, I just love the name of Ann-Marie’s blog: Chicks With Sticks. At first, I didn’t realize it was a knitter’s journal, but indeed it is, along with photos and other pieces of her life. Knitters, I just have to tell you — you ROCK. But then, anyone with a blog named Chicks With Sticks would have to rock, right?
- Trish also blogged it and donated to their fund. You knitters are FABULOUS! Trish knits and loves it and has some really cool pieces, including this knit skort for her daughter. I wish mine would wear skirts…it’s really cute. Thank you so much, Trish!
- Mia found this post on Digg (it has 1191 Diggs!!!! Go Digg it some more) and blogged about it on Me, Myself and I. Thank you, Mia. I’ll be watching for additional updates.
- Jay (The Zero Boss) has a great post up about it here, and yes Jay, you can say that on my blog. It’s only ME I censor. Well, me and the spammers.
- david left a note on my “shouting into the darkness” photo. (Maybe I should print, frame and auction it off on eBay to raise more $$$$?) David blogs at whateverisnew and also has a blog with a guy named Matt called Great Minds about living with Adult ADHD. Color me subscribed to that one. Thank you, David.
Keis, what keeps our justice system from being a crock is that we still have the ability to call for injustices to be reversed. Otherwise I would agree, and thank you for commenting!
What did I learn from all of this? One, that the blogosphere is a strong and powerful place — one where you can be heard and aren’t just shouting into a vacuum. Two, that knitters, teachers and mommy (and daddy) bloggers are amazing. Three, that there’s incredible and undiscovered blogs screaming to be read. I’m making it my goal to find more of them after this.
I think that rounds it up! I’m going to tally up the comments and trackbacks now, and post a final total in awhile. Time to pick up the daughter first.

I’m glad I found you through Mocha Momma. Almost every commenter so far has donated, posted on their blog OR emailed people about it. I love when we can make our voices heard.
Thank you.
scout, thank YOU. The knitting community is a passionate and generous one, indeed.
wow, not only are you doing a great thing, but then you go and do something sweet like talking about all of our blogs! what an awesome lady.
Hey, if we can’t help each other, what’s the point of a virtual community? Thanks for the recognition of my little blog.
What Mommela said.
Thanks for the shout-out. I am still trying to sort out what I can do — money of my own isn’t really an option right now, and I think I might have possibilities more helpful than my blog readers. (Not that blog readers aren’t helpful, but like Cindy Samuels, my career has touched on many of the issues this case raised.)
you are so kind- I know matt will appreciate the mention, as do I. he posted today, and it’s really encouraging.
it’s such a thrill to share blogging with someone you don’t know ( but feel you should) and to see the posts appear like magic ( without me having to write them)
I really like what you are doing here, I will bid $20 on that picture.
All,
Thank you so much for your kind comments.
David, I haven’t decided whether or not to auction it, but if I do I will definitely let you know!
