And now, a break in the action for a brief brag moment. The Music Department gave out their annual awards tonight, and Sticks received the John Philip Sousa, Louis Armstrong and Outstanding Senior awards. The first two are national awards (see links) and his name goes a plaque on the school’s perpetual trophies. It was really, really nice to see him rewarded for all of his hard work. Really nice.
He also received the Moorpark College Jazz Award in the mail today — another sweet piece of recognition.
I only wish the high school band director had received just rewards for her hard work. The school didn’t renew her contract for next year. I can speculate as to why but would rather not. It was bittersweet in that regard.
