Sorry for the blog silence lately — but I’m celebrating today, because I finished a HUGE work project that consumed way too much time over the last week or so.

Sticks left this morning on a concert tour of Baja California — he was called in as a substitute at the last minute last week for the band’s regular drummer, who had to back out. This will be very interesting. For the next week he will be completely on his own with relative strangers in a different country. I’m sure he’ll be just fine as long as he stays away from water and ice cubes, and it will certainly be a confidence builder for him. I think BD is just a little bit sad not to be seeing him play, though not sad at all to be relieved of schlepping duty for the next week or so.

We just discovered that there’s no way Sticks can take his driver’s test until his 18th birthday, and school starts for him the day before his 18th birthday, so it looks like he’ll be taking the train to school for awhile. Personally, I’d take the train every day if I could — why drive when I could be doing homework or playing videogames?

I hope everyone had a great 4th. I did, though I spent more than a few minutes reflecting on our Declaration of Independence and the stark and depressing reality that there are more than a few parallels between King George Bush and King George III.

Not to get too political here, but think deeply about the implications of what the commutation of Libby’s sentence means. For starters, it insulates him from having to testify under oath about the roles of Karl Rove and Dick Cheney in the whole mess. And of course, he doesn’t have to go to jail for obstructing justice. By commuting his sentence, George Bush has is now complicit in the obstruction of justice and search for the truth. I can’t help but wonder how much more blatant his abuse of power has to be before impeachment goes back on the table.
