Zaca Fire Spreads

by Karoli on August 20, 2007

Zaca Moonrise/Sunset

The Zaca Fire is slowly creeping down toward us and currently threatens Ojai. The original estimate for containment was September 7th. I’ll be surprised if that happens. The skies last week were rusty-red as the ash mixed with coastal fog for this spectacle. This was taken just after sunset, so that backlight is the last rays of sun as the moon struggles to peek through the schmutzy skies. Most of the smoke coming our way is from backfires being lit in an effort to contain the fire. Whether made by man or nature, the air quality is definitely degrading.
