Most of the news has been about the Malibu fire but there are many others burning in our area today. Early this afternoon, smoke began rolling across the sky at such an alarming pace that we were sure it was the Camarillo foothills on fire. I drove up to the hills behind the Santa Rosa Valley a bit later and as far as I could tell, the fire was coming from the southeast. There is also a significant fire in Fillmore, and the smoke could have been from that fire, too.
This Santa Ana event has been called a “major wind event”. Wind gusts from 80-100 miles per hour are expected in the mountains and canyons around here, after one of the lowest-rainfall years on record.
