This is a real life drama, unfortunately drugs not only brake the lives of those addicted, they also broke the lives of their entire families. It's too painful to even think about it. The only hope for addicts lies in drug treatment programs but how many of them have to power to decide for themselves to get the treatment?

Oh what a tragic story...with, like much of life, no happy ending. I feel for the parents...I can't imagine their pain. The poor man, however, is going to have to pay the piper. No winners here.

What a heartbreaking, nightmarish tale.

It is rare to see this kind of account told with such compassion and understanding. This, of course, is the kind of thing we all fear in the back of our minds, the reason we don't tell our own kids what we might have been up to in our youth, because even though we came out of it intact, there is no guarantee your children would. I feel so sad for your friends, their son and the victims of his crime and fervently wish - like you - that we as a society could find a better way.
