Why would I possibly want a Kindle?

by Karoli on November 28, 2007

Can someone please explain to me why I would want a Kindle even if it were designed better? Maybe I just don’t get it, like I didn’t get Twitter.

I have these visions of geeky me walking around with my phone (which I can use to read my blog subscriptions quite easily), my iPod, my laptop, cameras, and this big giant flat thing. Oh, and all of those with their very own cords and warts, too. Can you imagine going through airport security checkpoints?

What’s wrong with just reading a book? I love the feeling of a new book. I love holding them. I love reading the words on a page. I read them one at a time, usually, so why would I want a separate device that just reads books, and doesn’t even read them out loud to me, like my iPod does when I put an audio book on it?

Sell me, because I seriously don’t get it.

  • Yeah, I don't really get it either. The only advantage I can see is it can hold *lots* of books, and if it is searchable that's always an advantage. But the DRM totally kills it.

In the end I'd rather have an iPod full of audiobooks.
