Just Shoot Me. Please.

It’s January.  I’m not 50 until August, but I feel like I’m about 100.  Can someone please explain how bending down to get eggs out of the refrigerator after reaching up to get a mixing bowl can leave one small puny person in so much pain?

My back is on fire.  My upper back.  From the base of my neck to the middle, center and sides.  If I sit up perfectly straight and don’t move even an inch in any direction it’s somewhat better.  Three Advil doesn’t touch it.

I am cranky and grumpy and don’t like sitting in one position.  Just shoot me now.

The back is a delicate instrument that sometimes finally rebels after years of less-than-great treatment. See a doc or a chiropractor for some back-strengthening exercises that you'll do for the rest of your life, and you'll be fine, sez this 48-year-old whose 46-year-old husband has a back that did 2 years ago what yours is doing now.

    Hi Katharine,

Thanks — I've been doing stretching and exercise for awhile — preventing osteoporosis and all that. but this…this is like nothing I've ever experienced. Doc says muscle spasm so I suppose I shouldn't be whining, but those muscles are a heckuva lot stronger when they're hurting me than when I'm using them properly, I've gotta say.
