Snitter changed the way I use Twitter. Before Snitter, I would usually forget to check Twitter and I certainly wouldn’t leave it open because it would sit in a tab in a browser already loaded with tabs. But Snitter sat in my tray and politely popped up tweets as they came through, so that it was always there just in the back of my attention cone. It’s a little like getting to eavesdrop on a whole bunch of conversations and thoughts but never having to add anything unless I had something worth adding. Unlike IM, there’s no requirement to participate — it’s completely optional. Amy Gahran described it best when she tweeted “ I think of Twitter as reality TV of the mind
”
Twitter’s been down all day, and Snitter with it. No big deal, right? Wrong. It’s been driving me crazy all day long that I can’t boot up Snitter and catch up on the tweets, especially on the day of MacWorld (no big deal as it turned out, but still…) and the night of the Democratic debate and the primary in Michigan. Just making me utterly nuckinfutz.
Every time that stupid beloved little window pops up with “exceeds 70 requests in an hour” I want to scream at it, and then beg…please, please…I won’t ask too many times but just feed my need to see what they’re all sayin’.
Twitter Rehab, anyone?
