Weird and Random Things

Posted by Karoli in Blogging, Web January 15th, 2008

Donna tagged me with this meme and since I’ve been so incredibly bad about continuing them lately and since I’ve discovered so many interesting bloggers lately via the BlogHer Ad links* on the right-hand side, it’s time for me to step up and get it done. :) So here are a few weird and random facts about me:

  1. Black is my favorite wardrobe color because it relieves me of the need to think about color coordination
  2. BD and I met when he was a student in a class I was teaching.
  3. In first grade I was tagged to be the narrator of the Christmas play because I was the best reader in the class. But I goofed off too much and was demoted to a lowing cow, as in “the cattle are lowing…”. Yes, this was in public school back in the days where it was okay to do Christmas carols in school.
  4. Cursed with an oral fixation from birth, I sucked the middle two fingers of my right hand until I was ten, beginning the slide down the slippery slope that ruined my teeth and bite for life. No one could make me stop. Then one day, I just did. But it was too late.
  5. I taught myself the guitar in middle school and wasn’t bad by the time I graduated from high school, as long as I stuck to folk songs.
  6. John Denver was my hero all through high school.
  7. I still hate acid rock, but I’ve learned to like hard rock, thanks to Sticks. Still, give me some hot jazz anyday and I’m happy.
  8. I scored a perfect score on the verbal part of the SAT and a 330 on the math section. Yet my career has centered around math and actuarial calculations for the past 30 years. Calculators rock. So do computers.

There you have it. Eight random, weird, completely irrelevant factoids about me. Now the best reason to do these memes is to link you up with some voices that I read regularly and really enjoy. So I’m tagging Vanessa, Lee, Rachel, Leslie, and Marie. Participation is, of course, purely optional. :)

*About those ads: They’re paying for the site here. They even put a little extra money in the savings account toward new camera equipment, though I will certainly have to blog for a long time for them to pay entirely for it. But mostly they’re socially responsible and high-quality advertisers. I appreciate having sponsors like Dove, Kiva and other quality products and sites. So I’d appreciate it if you’d click the ad if it interests you or even one of the links below the ad to other interesting BlogHers’ posts around the web.
