One of the fascinating things about Twitter and Identi.ca is the expression of the group during ‘events’. In 140 characters, the group expresses, in real time, their hopes, dreams, reactions, concerns, pain and joy. As I was reading through my Twitter stream from yesterday (it saves to my email account for later reading/review), I was struck by how poetic the stream was during the ceremony and right after. I’ve taken some of those messages and put them together, unedited, as a poem. Here’s the first part.
I. The Ceremony
Amazing to see history unfold
in front of your own eyes
or to experience it in real time.
We are so excited
and emotional
and proud
and hopeful
in this house.
What a
monumental moment
in history, in just minutes
we will see
our hope restored…
I have had goosebumps for 30 minutes now
Weeping. Expect sobbing to follow
Aretha made me misty.
I am shivering on Michelle’s behalf
Barack Obama
has been sworn in
as the nation’s
44th president.
Thank G-d!! Thank G-d!! Thank G-d!!
the time has come, the walrus said…
