It's a policy goal. It's a moral goal. And, frankly, it's a bipartisan goal. Yes, that's right, both Democrats and Republicans believe that there are problems with how health care is delivered in this country and they think maybe we should do something to fix it. I'm totally fine with arguing over which policy solutions will work best and which are best left as ideas floating around in the ether. But, all statistics aside, I can't name a single person who believes that the health care system as a whole is working at maximum efficiency or efficacy.<br><br>So I'm with you on the plea to stop the name-calling and mud-slinging. What astounds me is that they think their "fundamental beliefs and myths" will have any credibility after being raked around in the name of zero-sum victory. It makes me wonder what would have happened if the news outlets in this country had simply let them go about their business without any publicity whatsoever. The health care debate really isn't about health care. It's about Barak Obama. Many people sense that a successful Obama presidency could signal a new direction for our country. Some of us think this is a good thing. Others sense that their fundamental beliefs and myths will lose credibility if Obama succeeds. They aren't studying the issues, analyzing the logic of their arguments or or bothering to stick to the truth. They are fighting for their philosophical survival and will use any tactic available. Hang on. The closer Obama comes to success, the nastier and more irrational the "debate" will get.
