I definitely agree that the approach of obtaining state-by-state buy in has a better chance of obtaining real movement to a single payer system, but that is something that would really take a while to occur. Since our visible political leaders like to drive change within the duration of their mandate, such an approach would not be something that they would ultimately be able to take credit for. Such silent revolutions are rarely even mentioned in history books so I can't imagine the appetite for such an approach.

LOL, I looked like death warmed over. Couldn't even watch the replay because it made me cringe. Between struggling to breathe and fighting the whole crud thing, it's a wonder I could even think. :) I'm most worried about progressives right now. They've hung their hat on the public option as the be-all and end-all, when there really are other ways to accomplish the same goal. I think Kucinich has hit on the right strategy.

Karoli,

Nice article with some simple explanations without all the hype yeah!

I get poo poo's a lot when I tell folks that I have Kaiser and for many reason like it. The model works well. The changes they have implemented through the years such as the use of email to communicate with my doctor's, online access to my health record, (test results, prescription info etc) and lots of health management tools/info has really improved the quality of care I receive.

I will be watching President Obama tonight and we can only hope.

Hope your feeling better and I would love to tell you that you looked marvelous yesterday on the web-cast but . .. LOL
