We are about to see the change we’ve been waiting for

Today is the day where we’re going to become a country that values the health of every citizen, not just the young, old and rich. After the vote, I’ll be writing about features that are little-known, but hold the keys to transforming the system.

If you are a hopeful sort, today is a day for celebration. If you are pessimistic, you’ll find reasons to be critical. The reality is this: With no margin for error, this President, Speaker of the House, and Senate majority leader have guided a transformational piece of legislation through to its finish, despite the continuing shrill protests and efforts to block this at every turn by Republicans.

This is an historical moment. Now it’s here. I plan to savor it.

Hey, now Sticks won't have to work. He can stay home and bang on his drums all day. Per Nancy Pelosi.

On the contrary. Now he will be *able* to work and be self-sufficient. Musicians are self-employed. There's no great big “Musicians, Inc.” out there listed on the Dow for them to go get benefits through. Now he'll be able to go get his own benefits, and pay his taxes, and even save and own a home or other things most people hope to do in their lifetimes.

You think this is all about entitlement. It's about equality. It always has been. All you've lost today is the right to stand over him and tell him you're better than he is. Congratulations.

The Ignorance of the factual truth in the people who stand against #HCR is astounding. That does not mean they are stupid…it simply means they let somebody else fill their heads with sound-bytes instead of doing their own research…reading, reading, reading…and then deciding what they will support or not.
    Thanks for Posting this Karoli.

Equality? You have any idea how that scares some people? Not letting the sick perish or go bankrupt is somehow the worst news some people have had in their lifetime.

Imagine a nation where the greatest minds and talents can actually survive to contribute and make our nation even greater! Somewhere, the status quo is quaking, hanging its head, and feeling left behind.

You will know where it is as it wails, moans and decries that things have changed for the better. It will hold its nose and refuse to take comfort in the lessening of suffering for others. It will, despite all efforts, resent.

Some things are incurable. For the rest…THERE'S HCR!!! WHOOPEEE!

Don't know where you get that I want to stand over him and tell him I am better than he is… More of your rhetoric I suppose. The dream you spelled out in your reply to me is not what Sticks got… But, what can I say… Time will tell and we shall see…. I know your ideology supports this life style. History has recorded the results. But, as Obama says, we can hope the outcome is different this time… All the best to all of us…

Gosh, So Sad, I guess it was the part of your comment that said he could “stay at home and bang on his drums all day.” Like he was some kind of scum-sucking deadbeat. I don't know how I could have interpreted that as a compliment, though God knows I tried.

Fortunate or otherwise, am I to have lived in Interesting Times. Hope & Assassinations. Good leaders, mediocre leaders, pathetically deficient leaders… and now, the most Amazing, skilled, courageous of all.

And I am among the greatest minds of our time. I see how we work together… and we can now have this… YES WE CAN!

It wasn't a compliment, just a tip of the hat to you that you won. I didn't call Sticks a scum-sucking deadbeat. Not sure where you got that…. I was repeating what Nancy Pelosi said with your backing in all your blogs for the past year, “Imagine an America where those who are artistic can now be free to pursue their creativity without having to worry about health insurance.” You must admit she was right, now Stick can do what Nancy “imagined”, as many people who work for real salaries, pay for his health insurance and he plays his drums and you write your blogs and our economy tanks. Time will tell….

Hi Catwest, I like your logic. “The greatest minds and talents can actually survive and contribute and make our nation even greater!” So the Greatest Minds and Talents can actually survive if the lesser minds and untalented pay their way? Go figure. LOL

Everyone is paying their own way. Unless you think ALL insurance is wrong. ALL insurance is a risk pool. Insurance is the collective whereby we all pay in and then when it is needed, say, for broken arm, sickness or whatever, the collective covers it.

However, if you are opposed to ALL insurance and are capable of paying the $30K-$130K out your own pocket when the need arises, then you can truly say you are paying ONLY your own way.

The basic premise of Insurance is that of a collective, and no one, who is capable of paying their share, is riding “Free”.

However, take it the next step: Those who are not capable, say, those with major incapacitation, are being paid for by the collective, unable to contribute 'their fair share' then yes, some will “Free Ride”. Unless of course, you would have them suffer and die, or perhaps execute them to keep the State “Free of Freeloaders.”

I'm not sure where you are coming from. Are you looking for the purging of all those with defects?

Why do you resent and misrepresent the fact that everyone is paying? Does it only sound better if you feel you are being taken advantage of?

Are you really wealthy enough that you do not need insurance and you can 'pay your own way' without need for the collective pool?

Aren't you, in fact, relying on others who are also in the collective pool, to pay your way when illness or injury comes?
