Tis The Season — For Fundraising

Hey everyone…in January I pulled ads from my site and just added a fairly obscure PayPal button to the sidebar. I did it for two reasons. First, I thought the ads served were pretty obnoxious for visitors. Second, I wanted the freedom to write whatever I wanted to write without worrying about what advertisers thought about it. While I’m not always prolific here, mostly because much of what I write politically is on Crooks and Liars, I do try to mix it up with pictures, music, and some posts that I think are important.

Right now, things for me are pretty tight. Part of that is my fault. I tend to give money away when I have it to causes I think are worthy. Part of it is just life. Ms. Dancer applied to ten universities, which meant paying for things like SAT/ACT scores to be sent, application fees, and all the rest of it. It’s domain/hosting renewal season too. And of course, it’s the holiday season.

I am going to do something I really don’t know how to do well: Ask you for donations. If you can, they would be much appreciated. If you can’t, I love you anyway and will gladly help you when I can. All of your support, kindnesses, debate, and yes, even disagreement has been welcome here. Your support on Twitter and continued support here keeps me smiling even when things feel a little bit dark.

Hopefully this blog has, in some way, educated, made you laugh, made you scream, made you smile. If not the posts, maybe the pictures, or at the very least, the pug. If it has, and if you can, please make a small donation to keep it on the Internet?

And if you can’t, then here’s a holiday hug from me to you with the most sincere wish that 2012 brings us all a bit more prosperity and opportunity. And of course, a photo…driving through the end of a storm as I was leaving Arizona. There’s a metaphor there, I’m sure.

(PS…I have zero idea why that paypal button is so huge)
