Here’s my take on April Fool’s Day: Our relationship is one that has at least a tenuous tie of trust. Therefore, I’m likely to assume that you’re saying what you mean. If you’re not, it pisses me off and makes me not want to believe you any more even if you have permission to play tricks and jokes.

This is why I hate April Fool’s Day, and tend to get very bitchy by day’s end.

Yes, I am a killjoy. Deal with it.

I know…late post. But even as I’m grateful for what is today, I have a list of things I really want to be grateful for tomorrow. Some are weighty; others fanciful. Still, by next year, I’d love to see them happen.

1. Leftover turkey
2. An end to obnoxious spammers
3. A house that is not overcrowded
4. A weekend without football
5. A vacation without kids
6. A cell phone with all of the features I want
7. Hormonal balance and a return to my former size 8 self
8. Full public exoneration of Julie Amero with an apology
9. Full withdrawal of all of our troops in Iran and Afghanistan
10. Accessible affordable health insurance available to everyone
11. An end to US threats toward Iran
12. An election outcome that brings realism and honesty into the office. (I told you there were some fanciful hopes)

I am thankful for what I have today, but that doesn’t stop me for hoping for a better tomorrow.

I’m supposed to travel to Atlanta on business early next month. My wardrobe hasn’t been updated in years, I’m most comfortable in soft, broken-in jeans and a sweater, and haven’t got the vaguest clue how to put together a couple of office-style outfits that will travel well, be warm and look nice, particularly on my 5′ 4″ middle-aging self. Oh, it would help if it didn’t cost next month’s mortgage payment, too.

Who blogs this stuff? I’ve looked at the Blogher posts about fashion but I didn’t really find anything there. Anyone on their blogroll I should read? Anyone on yours? Leave a comment.

For the first time since I’ve been on this webhost, the server was down for a good chunk of the day. There was a power surge which caused them to have to restore the server from a backup, and this one must’ve been one of the last ones restored. If you tried to get here today and couldn’t, that’s why.

It’s a busy weekend here. We’re trying to get ready to leave for Portland and Sticks has a big competition tomorrow with the Marching Band, too, so posting will likely be sparse. Have a great weekend.

Calling Verizon Online support to get help with my lack of connectivity, and after 5 levels of voice mail support options are exhausted, the system says:

“All right. I need one more item of information to proceed. What system are you using? Windows, Linux, or….”

I answer, “Windows.”

It responds: “For answers to this and many other questions regarding your connection, please visit Verizon Online’s help page at http://www.verizon.net/help. Thank you for calling Verizon Online.”

And the line goes dead.

Ummmmm….yeah.

The best part of birthdays is the cake. It’s the only time that I turn into a glutton. My mother-in-law has a super-duper secret German Chocolate cake recipe that is the best cake I’ve ever had…she always makes one for me on my birthday…

…and Dancergirl made cupcakes (no toppers but they still look yummy!)

Sticks has a late rehearsal and Dancergirl is at dance practice till eight, so the pug and I are here by ourselves under strict orders not to eat anything until proper birthday wishes have been given when we’re all together. 

Hmmmmm.  think they’d notice if just one was missing?
