Venice Canals: The Postcard Shot

Posted by Karoli in Photography October 9th, 2007

Yesterday I took a break from the never-ending tasks ahead of me before October 15th and went with Sticks to the Venice Canals. He has an Urban Studies paper and presentation to do and it required walking the canals, and then the boardwalk. What an incredible contrast between the two. The canals are peaceful, idyllic. The boardwalk is raucous, crowded and full of sidewalk stands selling stuff that looks like it came right out of the sixties. The vibe is different but fun in both places.

This is the classic Venice Canals Postcard Shot. I couldn’t resist. One of the fun parts to the canal walk is just seeing all of the different styles of architecture from house to house. Cottages and mansions, side by side. It’s great fun and highly recommended. Venice has a colorful history, which carries through to today. Some of the old pictures I posted last month were taken there. Even though many of the vintage buildings and nearly all of the houses are gone now, there’s still just a touch of that art deco left on the boardwalk and in the mood along the canals.
